Exodus
Day
Day 113

"Let them give glory to the LORD, and declare His praise in the coastlands." Isaiah 42:12

Text: Exodus 15 : 3-7

INSIGHT AFTER PRECIOUS INSIGHT

It was Moses who asked after God’s Name in his first encounter with the Lord. He did not have to ask twice! This time it was Moses who proclaimed that he knew the name of the God who gained high honours for defeating Pharaoh’s elite chariots.

“The LORD is a man of war;
The LORD is His name.”
EXODUS 15:3

The word “LORD” says it all! He was who He was! He will be who He will be! That was His Name! Would He choose to be a man of war? Then He would be just that! What a God Israel acknowledged and worshiped!

EXULTING IN GOD’S VICTORY OVER PHARAOH

Once again, Moses thought about the way God defeated the feared Egyptian army! He may have left Egypt four decades earlier, but he had grown up in the land. As a prince of Egypt, he would have been familiar with the military prowess of the army. Yet, for all the fanfare the army enjoyed, it was thoroughly destroyed by God!

“Pharaoh’s chariots and his army
He has cast into the sea;
His chosen captains also are
drowned in the Red Sea.
The depths have covered them;
They sank to the bottom like a stone.”
EXODUS 15:4-5

Pharaoh’s army just collapsed before the might of God! All his captains were drowned in the Red Sea! What folly to think that they could defeat the God of the children of Israel!

THE GLORIOUS RIGHT HAND OF GOD

Moses soon returned to the theme of the power of God! How he must seek to teach Israel to reverence this great God of theirs!

“Your right hand, O LORD, has become glorious in power,
Your right hand, O LORD, has dashed the enemy in pieces.
And in the greatness of Your excellence
You have overthrown those who rose against You;
You sent forth Your wrath;
It consumed them like stubble.”
EXODUS 15:6-7

Pharaoh had risen up against God in his vain-glorious ways! He had disdained and despised the God of the Hebrews once too often! He would rue the day he dared to rise up against the LORD! For the last time, he would taste the glorious power of the right hand of the LORD! God’s wrath consumed the Egyptian army like mere stubble!
