Day 106

"The glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken." Isaiah 40:5

Text: Exodus 14 : 13-14

QUELLING FEAR WITH FAITH

The children of Israel was almost riotous because of the fear that was gripping them! They were angry, frustrated and terrified at the thought of the Egyptian army attacking them! Moses reacted with tremendous speed! Fear had to be quelled! Faith was the answer!

“And Moses said to the people,
‘Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD,
which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom
you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The LORD will
fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”
EXODUS 14:13-14

1. “Do not be afraid”

Fear accomplished nothing. Fear only causes panic and confusion! Fear must be dealt with summarily! They must seek to master their fears!

2. “Stand still and see the salvation of the LORD”

Had not the Lord shown His power ten times over in Egypt? Was His power exhausted already? Never! He will yet bring about deliverance for the children of Israel! But they must stand still and exercise their trust in the Lord!

3. “The LORD will fight for you”

What a thrilling thought this was! What a lift to the soul! The children of Israel could not hope to fight with the Egyptian army and hope to win! They were untrained civilians and would be slaughtered if they sought to fight the Egyptians! But what if the Lord were to fight on their behalf? Would their One God be enough against the thousands of soldiers and charioteers that Pharaoh had drummed up in a hurry? Moses was confident that God all by Himself was more than a match for the Egyptians!

4. “Hold your peace”

It would not serve any purpose if the children of Israel kept infecting each other with their fears! It would be far better if they were to hold their peace and say absolutely nothing! Their silent faith in God would be of greater significance than a whole plethora of words fraught with fear!

5. A welcome and powerful promise

There was no question that the children of Israel feared their Egyptians masters. Years of being in bondage had created a deep sense of fear within their hearts! Moses offered a tremendous word of power to the children of Israel. What if God were to grant them such a significant victory, that they would never need to see their Egyptian masters ever again! He who wrought the ten plagues could accomplish this great feat also, could He not? Faith must be brought to the fore and fear banished!
