"Appointed heir of all things "

Text: Hebrews 1:2b

THE GOSPELS PRESENTATION OF JESUS

We owe much to the authors who took great pains to give us important information concerning the life of Jesus. From a careful study of the Gospels, we have adequate information concerning Jesus.

1. He was of royal lineage (Cf. Matthew 1:1-17).

2. He was born of a Virgin (Cf. Matthew 1:1-25).

3. He came to be Immanuel (Cf. Matthew 1:23).

a) He came preaching the Kingdom of heaven (Cf. Matthew 4:17)
b) He came healing the many who were sick (Cf. Matthew 9:35)

4. His finest hour was when He died for mankind (All four Gospels recorded Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection from the dead)!

A SPECIAL PERSPECTIVE

There was one limitation that all the Gospel writers seemed to observe. While they focused on the life and teachings of Jesus, they did not offer the perspective that the author of Hebrews attempted. The writer did not write about the life or the activities of Jesus, for then he would be presenting another Gospel account. His focus was quite different for he had a special perspective to offer.

“Whom He (God) has appointed heir of all things,
through whom also He made the worlds.”

Hebrews 1:2

He wanted to exalt Jesus to the position that was rightly His!

1. Jesus was Heir of all things

a) This truth was hinted at in the parable of the Wicked Vinedressers (Cf. Luke 20:9-19)
b) This was taught by the apostle Paul as well (Cf. Romans 8:17; Ephesians 3:6)

{Paul asserted the thought of believers as being given the privilege to be joint-heirs with Christ}.

2. Jesus was Co-Creator

The apostle John would have no difficulty in supporting this great theological statement. He himself wrote about this in the opening words of his Gospel.

“All things were made through Him, and without Him
nothing was made that was made.”

John 1:3
