“A High Priest over the house of God…” Hebrews 10:21

THE CONTINUING WORK OF CHRIST

The work of the Lord Jesus Christ did not end with His death on the cross of Calvary. His work continues till this day. The following text reveals to us what that work is.

“And having a High Priest over the house of God,
let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience
and our bodies washed with pure water.”
Hebrews 10:21-22

1. “A High Priest over the house of God”

a) All believers form the house of God.
b) In God’s house Jesus functions as our great High Priest.
c) His roles include:
i) Headship of the royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9)
ii) A vital mediatorial role (1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 8:6)
iii) An intercessory ministry (Hebrews 5:1-11)

2. Drawing near to God

There is a part for us to play. We must respond positively and with great gratitude as we approach the Holiest Place through the Lord Jesus Christ!

a) Drawing near to God with a true heart.
b) In full assurance of faith.
c) With hearts sprinkled clean
i) From all our sins.
ii) Even from an evil conscience.
d) Our bodies washed
i) We stand purified before the Lord.
ii) Our body is seen as having been washed with pure water.
