"Therefore from one man..."

Text: Hebrews 11:12

UNTOLD BLESSINGS OF FAITH

Great blessings attend those who possess faith in God. The following text argues this point powerfully.

“Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead,
were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude-
innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.”
Hebrews 11:12

1. Therefore

a) This is an important inferential particle.

b) The author had been building his argument about the importance of having faith.

c) He cited the faith of Abraham in particular.

d) As a result of Abraham’s faith great blessings came to his descendants.

2. From one man

a) Abraham was but a humble man when God first called him.

b) His faith and his obedience to God led to great blessings.

c) From just one man… untold blessings were outpoured.

3. And him as good as dead

a) From the human standpoint, Abraham could not have fathered Isaac.

b) He was a hundred years old when Isaac was born (Cf. Genesis 21:5).

4. As many as the stars of the sky in multitude- innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.

a) This is a description of the descendants of Abraham.

b) From one man a nation arose.

c) From one man who had faith in God innumerable blessings were extended to many generations.

The challenge to possess faith in God could not be made more obvious!
