Hebrews
"The Holiest of All..."
Text: Hebrews 9:3
THE HOLY OF HOLIES
The most important part of the Tabernacle was “The holy of holies”. This was well understood by the author of Hebrews when he wrote the following text.
“And behind the second veil, the part of the tabernacle
which is called the Holiest of All.”
Hebrews 9:3
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE “HOLIEST OF ALL”
How may we understand and appreciate the lessons associated with “The Holiest of All”?
1. Many Attributes of God
a) God has many attributes (This should not come as a surprise to anyone).
b) The following attributes were proclaimed by God Himself (Cf. Exodus 34:6):-
i) Merciful
ii) Gracious
iii) Longsuffering
iv) Goodness
v) Truth
vi) Forgiving
c) Attempts to take advantage of God’s tender attributes.
i) Man’s sinfulness would cause him to attempt to take advantage of God.
ii) Man finds himself in grave danger when he attempts the above.
2. The Holiness of God
God had to emphasise His holiness again and again. The following is one of the most potent statements of God’s holiness.
“You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy”
Leviticus 19:2
The “Holiest of All” was established to reinforce this vital doctrine- that God is most holy and he should always be held in reverence and sacred regard!
