"The way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest..."

Text: Hebrews 9:8

THE MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The author of Hebrews had acknowledged the Person and the Ministry of the Holy Spirit in his book. Two things were highlighted:-

1. He manifests Himself with “gifts” (Cf. Hebrews 2:4)

2. He spoke through the Scriptures (Cf. Hebrews 3:7)

His ministry is appreciated again in the following text.

“The Holy Spirit indicating this, that the way into
the Holiest of All, was not yet made manifest
while the first tabernacle was still standing.”
Hebrews 9:8

a) The Holy Spirit indicating this

i) The Holy Spirit is presented as the Ultimate Teacher.

ii) It was He who indicated (“explained”).

b) Not yet made manifest

i) One way of teaching was “to make manifest”.

ii) This means “to make very clear”.

iii) There was a time element involved.

c) While the first tabernacle was still standing

i) It was correct and wise not to make manifest the future way into the Holy of Holies.

ii) To indicate the future way of entering into the Holiest of All would have largely been incomprehensible.

iii) The Tabernacle worship had to be taught and regarded as absolutely valid in its time context.

iv) As long as the Tabernacle existed there was no reason to speak of another way of entering into the Holiest lest a wrong regard of the Tabernacle worship emerged.
