Day 150 – Psalm 54

“He will repay my enemies for their evil…” Psalm 54:5

HOW GOD WOULD VINDICATE THE RIGHTEOUS

David was confident that God would not only hear his prayer but would also vindicate him.

“He will repay my enemies for their evil.
Cut them off in Your truth.”
Psalm 54:5

1. Knowledge of God

a) David had learned much about God as part of his upbringing.
b) Moses had commanded that all children should be given religious instruction (Deuteronomy 6).
c) David had also grown in his knowledge of God through many personal experiences with Him.
d) He knew that God was a righteous Judge committed to upholding justice.

2. “He will repay my enemies for their evil”

a) David did not make the Ziphites his enemies.
b) The Ziphites became his enemy perhaps for political gain or personal fortune.
c) Their intentions were evil.
i) They were prepared to betray an innocent man.
ii) They were prepared to deliver David (and his men) to the evil King Saul.
iii) God, being who He is, would surely judge these wicked enemies.

3. “Cut them off in Your truth”

a) There is a small hint of imprecation in this statement.
b) David prayed that the enemies may be “cut off”.
c) However, he would leave the matter of how God would deal with wicked people.
