“In spite of this they still sinned…” Psalm 78:32a

LESSONS LEARNED

Learning is a natural part of life. We learn through formal education (school). We also learn from life’s experiences. The greatest lessons are often learned through hard experiences. Spiritual lessons appear to be very difficult for some to learn.

“In spite of this they still sinned,
And did not believe in His wondrous works.”
Psalm 78:32

1. “In spite of this”

a) In spite of the wrath of God displayed.
b) In spite of the number of people who died.
c) In spite of the fact that Moses must have sought to teach the children of Israel.

2. “They still sinned”

a) They had not learned their lesson.
b) They still remained recalcitrant.
c) They still chose to be as they were.

3. “And did not believe”

a) They chose unbelief to faith in God.
b) They closed their hearts and minds to what the Lord had done for them.

4. “His wondrous works”

a) The ten plagues unleashed against Egypt.
b) The miraculous crossing of the Red Sea.
c) The daily protection of God (by cloud and by fire).
d) The special provision God gave to the nation… water, manna and quail.

5. How can anyone not believe?

Ultimately believing in God involves a personal choice. The human heart can be so hardened and carnal that it can actually shut God out! The loss is not God’s. The loss is sustained by the people who reject God despite His power and grace so wonderfully demonstrated.
