“Restore us, O God of hosts…” Psalm 80:7a

THE SECOND PLEA FOR RESTORATION

Asaph sent up another urgent plea to God for full restoration.

“Restore us, O God of hosts;
Cause Your face to shine,
And we shall be saved!”
Psalm 80:7

1. “Restore us, O God of hosts”

a) The original plea was “Restore us, O God”.
b) The second plea addressed the Lord as “O God of hosts”.

2. Significance of addressing the Lord as “God of hosts”

The word “hosts” highlights Asaph’s knowledge of God:-

a) He is a Mighty God.
b) He commands a mighty legion of powerful angels.
c) Asaph was making an appeal for help to a great and mighty God.

3. “Cause Your face to shine”

a) Asaph knew that God had hidden His face from Israel.
b) God had not caused His face to shine on the nation.
c) This was the second plea to God to look upon His people with favour and not anger.

4. “And we shall be saved”

a) Asaph did not doubt that God could grant salvation (deliverance).
b) He did not doubt that God could turn the table on the enemies and cause them to be defeated.
c) Victory was within grasp with God’s help.

PRAYING WITHOUT CEASING

Asaph’s second plea to God for restoration reinforces the fact that we must pray without ceasing. Full restoration must be the ultimate goal. Only when there is full restoration would there be an outpouring of significant blessings from God. Till God answered, Asaph knew what he must do. He must persevere in prayer. He must pray without ceasing till God restores fully.
