“All nations whom You have made…” Psalm 86:9

A PROPHETIC ELEMENT

David introduced an interesting prophetic element in his prayer next. It should not surprise us for David was not just a king, he was also considered a prophet (Acts 2:30).

“All nations whom You have made
Shall come and worship before You, O Lord,
And shall glorify Your name.”
Psalm 86:9

1. “All nations whom You have made”

a) David acknowledged God as the Creator.
b) God did not merely create Israel.
c) All the people in all the nations were also created by God.
i) Notwithstanding their lack of acknowledgment of God as their Creator.
ii) Despite their worship of other deities (Psalm 86:8).

2. “Shall come and worship before You, O Lord”

a) David prophesied that one day all nations would turn to the Lord and worship Him.
b) The word “all nations” needs to be understood carefully.
i) It does not mean every human being.
ii) It simply means that in every nation some of the people would come to have faith in the Lord.

3. “And shall glorify Your name”

a) The faith of David, the faith of Israel would one day become a worldwide thing.
b) Believing in the Lord God of Israel would become a global phenomenon.
c) This phenomenon would truly glorify God’s name.

THE FULFILMENT OF THIS PROPHETIC ELEMENT

This prophetic element has been fulfilled. David’s prophecy involved the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ. David had written about the coming of the Messiah in a number of his psalms (e.g. Psalm 22). Today people from all nations profess faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour. This remarkable prophecy has been well and truly fulfilled.
