Day 280 – Psalm 86

“Teach me Your way, O LORD…” Psalm 86:11a

A GREAT DESIRE TO WALK WITH GOD

David had a deep and genuine desire to walk with God. But he was also conscious of his human weaknesses and failings. He had failed God many times. Nevertheless he determined that he would pray and ask God again and again for help to learn how to walk with Him.

“Teach me Your way, O LORD;
I will walk in Your truth;
Unite my heart to fear Your name.”
Psalm 86:11

1. “Teach me Your way, O LORD”

a) This was not the first time David made this prayer (Psalm 25:4-5).
b) What then was he asking for?
i) To learn from mistakes made along the way (e.g. wrong applications).
ii) To have deeper insights.

2. “I will walk in Your truth”

a) Despite failure, David determined that he would try again.
b) His heart desired to walk in God’s truth.
c) It would be a challenging thing to attempt, but he is unafraid to make the effort.

3. “Unite my heart to fear Your name”

a) David knew he needed his heart to be “united”.
i) There were distractions.
ii) His heart was divided (at times).
b) What is a united heart?
i) There is single-mindedness.
ii) The heart is totally focused and dedicated.
c) Fearing God’s name.

This was just the beginning of true and great wisdom.
