Day 217 – Psalm 109

“Let his days be few…” Psalm 109:8a

A PROFOUND PLEA

The prayers of David are often more profound than thought. If read superficially, the following plea to God may seem almost vindictive. But if read carefully, there is much depth of thought.

“Let his days be few,
And let another take his office.”
Psalm 109:8

1. “Let his days be few”

a) The context is that of the wicked.
b) Let us recall what he does
i) He sows hatred.
ii) He speaks lies.
iii) He seeks to harm without a cause.
c) If longevity is on his side then he could cause havoc in the nation.
d) David was praying that he would not have a long life!

2. “And let another take his office”

a) What if the wicked is holding an important and high office?
b) What if he is in a position of power and influence?
c) What untold damage he could do if he continued in his office!
d) His office should be taken away and given to one who deserves it.

A PROPHETIC WORD

This was a veiled prophetic word. This word was indeed deep and profound.

1. Judas was made an apostle by the Lord Jesus.

2. Yet he betrayed his Master!

3. His days were few for he committed suicide.

4. His office was taken by another who was more deserving (Acts 1:16-26).

Peter opined that David had spoken these words prophetically.
