“Let the creditor seize all that he has…” Psalm 109:11a

FURTHER CONSEQUENCES

Consequences are seldom limited to a specific area. Often, there could be knock-on effects. That this is so is expressed in the following text.

“Let the creditor seize all that he has,
And let strangers plunder his labour.
Let there be none to extend mercy to him,
Nor let there be any to favour his fatherless children.”
Psalm 109:11-12

1. Financial ruin

a) The wicked seize the wealth of their enemies.
b) Now they face financial ruin themselves; creditors will take all that they possess.
c) The labour of the wicked would be in vain for the fruit of their labour would be plundered.

2. No mercy

a) The wicked had not shown mercy to their victims in the past.
b) They must not expect mercy to be shown to them.
c) They had shown no pity to fatherless children (in the past).
d) Now their own children would experience what it means to suffer in this manner.

IMPRECATORY PRAYERS

What the psalmist offers up as prayers must be carefully studied and understood.

1. God may or may not answer his prayers exactly.

2. If the prayers are offered with iniquity in the heart-

a) Wickedness
b) Vindictiveness
c) Then the prayer would not be heard (Psalm 66:18).

3. All prayers would be subject to God’s will.

4. God will decide how He would respond to all prayers… including painful imprecatory ones.
