“His righteousness endures forever…” Psalm 112:3b

ENCOURAGING INSIGHTS

The psalmist offers more encouraging insights about God’s blessings on the righteous who fear Him in the following text.

“Wealth and riches will be in his house,
And his righteousness endures forever.
Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness;
He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
A good man deals graciously and lends;
He will guide his affairs with discretion.”
Psalm 112:3-5

1. Material blessings

a) Wealth and riches
b) A typical Hebraism (to describe significant wealth)

2. The greater focus

a) This man who fears the Lord will seek to practise righteousness always.
b) His righteousness (practical and personal righteousness) will endure forever.
c) Some features of this good and righteous man:-
i) He is gracious.
ii) He is full of compassion.
iii) That he is truly righteous becomes obvious through his good deeds.
iv) He deals graciously with everyone.
v) He uses his wealth judiciously and lends to those in need.
vi) He will always use discretion in all his affairs.

3. A Special blessing from God

The righteous will also experience times that may be called “darkness”. However, he may take heart that God will give him a special blessing. The Lord will give to him light from His word to guide him in dark times.
