“Surely he will never be shaken…” Psalm 112:6a

STEADFAST AND IMMOVEABLE

The psalmist continues to develop his theme about God’s blessings on those who walk uprightly and reverently.

“Surely he will never be shaken;
The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance.
He will not be afraid of evil tidings;
His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.
His heart is established;
He will not be afraid,
Until he sees his desire upon his enemies.”
Psalm 112:6-8

1. An elaborate description of the steadfastness of the upright

a) He will never be shaken.

b) He will not be afraid of evil tidings.

c) His heart is steadfast in his trust in the Lord.

d) His heart is established.

2. Amidst tough circumstances

a) Amidst darkness (Psalm 112:4).

b) Amidst enemies

GREAT FORTITUDE OF HEART AND MIND

How does a person develop such a great sense of fortitude of heart and mind? Let us ponder the following thoughts:-

1. It has to do with the genuine righteousness possessed

It takes genuine faith to start with. The righteous will carefully nurture his faith in God through cultivating his character till it reflects God (Psalm 112:4).

2. It has to do with God too

a) God’s blessings can bring about such fortitude of heart and mind.

b) God’s Presence may not be openly declared but there is no mistaking Divine involvement. God will empower and enable those who fear Him with such power.
