Psalm 119:1 "Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD!"

Day 273 – Psalm 119:1-8

“Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD!” Psalm 119:1

BLESSED

Psalm 119 resembles Psalm 1. Both psalms focus on the theme of what it means to be blessed by the Lord. Both psalms agree on at least one thing. The blessings of the Lord are closely associated with the Word of the Lord. Psalm 119 devotes full attention on how the righteous ought to apply the place of God’s word in life! (This psalm was written cleverly in an acrostic pattern. The first word corresponds with the Hebrew alphabet).

“Blessed are the undefiled in the way,
Who walk in the law of the LORD!
Blessed are those who keep His testimonies,
Who seek Him with the whole heart!
They also do no iniquity;
They walk in His ways.”
Psalm 119:1-3

1. Remarkable resemblance in thought between Psalm 1 and Psalm 119

The following things are found in both psalms.

a) “Blessed” Psalm 1:1; Psalm 119:1-2
b) “The law of the LORD” Psalm 1:2; Psalm 119:1

2. Same concept but expressed a little differently

a) The blessings of the Lord would come to the following:-
i) The undefiled who do not walk in the way of sinners (Psalm 1:1; Psalm 119:1).
ii) The faithful who walk in the law of the Lord (Psalm 1:1-2; Psalm 119:1).
iii) Those who keep His testimonies because they delight in them (Psalm 1:2; Psalm 119:2).
b) Extended ideas:-
i) Those who seek the Lord with the whole heart.
ii) Those who reject doing iniquity.
iii) Those who walk in His ways.

SEEKING THE BLESSINGS OF THE LORD

This is the most natural desire. What would life be like without the blessing of the Lord? The psalmist seeks to encourage his readers to devote time to the study and application of God’s word in life.
