Day 282 – Psalm 119:33-40

“Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, and revive me in Your way.” Psalm 119:37

THE PROBLEM OF COVETOUSNESS

The sin of covetousness is often a hidden one. The heart is quite inclined to coveting material things. The palmist admits to this problem and sought a solution to it.

“Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things,
And revive me in Your way.
Establish Your word to Your servant,
Who is devoted to fearing You.
Turn away my reproach which I dread,
For Your judgments are good.
Behold, I long for Your precepts;
Revive me in Your righteousness.”
Psalm 119:37-40

d) The eyes should not look at these things.

2. A further work of revival is prayed for

a) This time, the psalmist prays to become established in the word of God.
b) He also prays that he would not suffer reproach for being covetous.
c) Once again, candidly, the psalmist prayed to be revived further.
d) He desires to be filled more and more with God’s own righteousness.

3. A greater maturity

a) Spiritual maturity is needed to sustain revival.
b) There must be a true sense of devotion to fearing God.
c) There is a deeper level of appreciation that God’s laws are indeed good.
d) There is a deeper sense of longing to understand the precepts of God.
