MISTAKES AND SINS

1. These are a part of life

2. Mistakes will be made

3. Sins are not unexpected

4. Abram was not blameless in any way

 

THE MISTAKES MADE

1. Reading the Famine problem incorrectly

a) Famine in the land (Genesis 12:10a)
b) Decision to go to Egypt (Genesis 12:10b)

2. Decision made

a) No seeking of God
b) No altar raised
c) No calling on the Lord’s name

DANGER IN EGYPT

1. They were strangers in the land

2. Abram feared for his life

3. Abram and Sarai plotted and planned to deceive the Pharaoh

4. Worse than a mistake, sins were committed

THINGS HAPPENED AS FEARED

1. Sarai was abducted

2. Abram was not killed but spared

3. He was well-treated for Sarai’s sake (Genesis 12:14-16)

THE LORD’S PROTECTION

1. God protected Abram and Sarai

2. God plagued the Pharaoh (Genesis 12:17)

THE DECEPTION UNCOVERED

1. Pharaoh rebuked Abram (Genesis 12:18-19)

2. He sent Abram and Sarai out of his land

LESSONS LEARNED

1. About God

a) He will protect
b) He will provide
c) He will pardon

2. About faith in God (Genesis 12:20)

a) Faith needs to be exercised
b) Consultation with God needs to be done
c) Erecting of altars is no guarantee of continued and constant blessing
