THE IMAGERY OF SHEPHERD AND SHEEP

1. The LORD as Shepherd- Divine Imagery

The LORD is my Shepherd (Psalm 23:1)

2. His people as sheep

We are His people and the sheep of His pasture (Psalm 100:3)

3. David as shepherd- Human Imagery (Psalm 78:70-72)

a) Original occupation- a shepherd

i) Following the ewes that had young

ii) Took him from the sheepfolds

b) God chose David His servant (Psalm 78:70)

c) To shepherd Jacob His people
And Israel His inheritance (Psalm 78:71)

d) David’s shepherding work

i) He shepherded according to the integrity of his heart (Psalm 78:72a)

ii) Guided them by the skillfulness of his hands (Psalm 78:72b)
