“You shall anoint for me the one I name to you” 1 Samuel 16:3c

(II) PREPARATION FOR KINGSHIP- THE WORK OF THE SPIRIT

“And the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward.” 1 Samuel 16:13b

(III) REJECTION FROM KINGSHIP- THE DEPARTURE OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD

“But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the Lord troubled him.” 1 Samuel 16:14

1. Significance of Departure of the Spirit of God

a) Removal of the Presence of the Spirit of God

(IV) EARLY SIGNS OF INDICATION OF THE SPIRIT’S MINISTRY IN DAVID

“Then one of the servants answered and said, ‘Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skilful in playing, a mighty man of valour, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the LORD is with him.’ ” 1 Samuel 16:18
