(I) THE SIGNIFICANCE OF ANOINTING
1. Identification/ Recognition
“And the LORD said, ‘Arise, anoint him, for this is the one!’ ” 1 Samuel 16:12c

From among the other sons of Jesse (1 Samuel 16:10)
“You shall anoint for me the one I name to you” 1 Samuel 16:3c
“Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers…” 1 Samuel 16:13a

(II) PREPARATION FOR KINGSHIP- THE WORK OF THE SPIRIT
“And the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward.” 1 Samuel 16:13b

(III) REJECTION FROM KINGSHIP- THE DEPARTURE OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD
“But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the Lord troubled him.” 1 Samuel 16:14
