(II) EARLY YEARS

1. He did well under the guidance of Jehoida

2. Repairs for the Temple

c) Calling on Jehoida to look into the matter of repairs for the temple

(III) TEMPLE RENOVATIONS UNDER JEHOIDA

b) Great support from many worshippers

a) Faithful workers

b) Outstanding commendation of the faithful workers (2 Kings 12:15)

(IV) LATTER YEARS

2 Chronicles 24

1. Death of Jehoida (2 Chronicles 24)

a) Jehoida died at 130 (2 Chronicles 24:15)

b) Given full burial honours (2 Chronicles 24:16)

2. King Joash turns away from the Lord

a) Influenced by leaders of Judah (2 Chronicles 24:17)

b) Embraced idolatry and set aside his faith (2 Chronicles 24:18)

(V) GOD’S PROPHETS

1. The Lord sent prophets to bring them back to the faith (2 Chronicles 24:19)

2. Zechariah, the son of Jehoida was a special prophet raised up by the Lord (2 Chronicles 24:20)

3. His message fell on deaf ears (2 Chronicles 24:21)

4. He was killed at the command of King Joash (2 Chronicles 24:21)

5. Sad commentary

“Thus Joash the king did not remember the kindness which Jehoida his father had done to him, but killed his son; and as he died, he said, ‘The LORD look on it, and repay!’ ” 2 Chronicles 24:22

2. Assassination of Joash

a) His own people killed him

b) Revenge for killing Jehoida’s sons (2 Chronicles 24:25)
