(I) MOSES IN MIDIAN

1. Moses finds himself resting at a well in the land of Midian (Exodus 2:15)


2. He comes across an incident at the well

 

(II) WATERING THE SHEEP

1. This was a public well


2. It was free for all to use


3. 7 shepherdesses (daughters of Reuel, also known as Jethro) (Exodus 2:17-18)

a) They brought their father’s flocks to drink at the well

b) But mean shepherds drove them away (Exodus 2:17)

(III) MOSES TO THE RESCUE

1. Moses offered help to the shepherdesses (Exodus 2:17)

2. He stood against the bullying shepherds (Exodus 2:17)

 

(IV) AN EARLY RETURN

1. Reuel was surprised to see his daughters back home earlier than usual


2. He learns that they had help from “an Egyptian” (Exodus 2:18)

 

(V) INVITATION TO MOSES ISSUED

1. He was invited to have a meal with Reuel and his family (Exodus 2:20)


2. In time to come Moses was given the hand of Zipporah in marriage (Exodus 2:21)

 

(VI) MOSES SETS UP HOME IN MIDIAN

1. He has a family now


2. First-born was called Gershom (Exodus 2:22)

(Meaning: “stranger”)

(VII) EGYPT

1. The Pharaoh who enslaved Israel had died (Exodus 2:23)


2. The plight of the children of Israel

a) They groaned because of their bondage (Exodus 2:23)

b) They cried out to God (Exodus 2:23)

 

3. God did not forget His people

a) He remembered the covenant He gave to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Exodus 2:24)

b) He looked upon the children of Israel

c) He acknowledged them as the descendants of Abraham (Exodus 2:25)
