TRUTHS TO BE BORNE IN MIND

1. Children of the LORD your God   (Deuteronomy 14:1)

2. A holy people   (Deuteronomy 14:2a)

3. Chosen to be a people for Himself   (Deuteronomy 14:2b)

4. A special treasure above all the peoples
who are on the face of the earth   (Deuteronomy 14:2c)

a) Bodily mutation   (Deuteronomy 14:1)
b) Shaving the front of the head   (Deuteronomy 14:1)

DIETARY LAWS

1. Clean Land Animals
Things that may be eaten   (Deuteronomy 14:5)

a) Ox, sheep, goat, gazelle, roe deer, wild goat, mountain goat, antelope, mountain sheep
b) Two main criteria to note   (Deuteronomy 14:6)
i) Animals with cloven hooves
ii) Animals that chew the cud

2. Unclean Land Animals
Things that may not be eaten   (Deuteronomy 14:7-8)

a) Camel, hare, rock hyrax, swine, dead carcases
b) The two criteria have not been fulfilled
c) One criterion is insufficient

3. Sea Food

a) Things that may be eaten   (Deuteronomy 14:9)
Two criteria to note   (Deuteronomy 14:9)
i) Fins
ii) Scales
b) Things that may not be eaten   (Deuteronomy 14:10)
If the above criteria are not met

4. Birds of the air/ Fowls

a) Things that may be eaten
All clean birds   (Deuteronomy 14:11, 20)
b) Things that may not be eaten   (Deuteronomy 14:12-18)
Eagle, vulture, buzzard, red kite, falcon, kites family, raven family etc

5. Creeping things
All forbidden   (Deuteronomy 14:19)

6. Things that die of themselves   (Deuteronomy 14:21)

a) Not to be eaten
b) But foreigners may eat

COOKING OF FOOD

The young goat may not be boiled in its mother’s milk   (Deuteronomy 14:21f)
