Subject: “Those who preach the gospel of peace” Romans 10:15

14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:

“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,

Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

Romans 10:14-15

1. The Content of the Gospel has been well-established

a) It is centred in the Lord Jesus
b) The heart of the Gospel is the Lord Jesus through whom we are justified

2. The Case for preaching the Gospel was now the main focus

FOUR “HOW” QUESTIONS RAISED

1. How may people call on the Lord when they do not believe in Him?

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed?

Romans 10:14a

a) The problem of ignorance is very grave
b) Many do not call on the Lord because they do not believe

2. How may they believe if they have not heard the Gospel?

And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?

Romans 10:14b

a) Believing depends on hearing the Gospel
b) Where there is no Gospel knowledge, there is no faith

3. How may they hear if there is no preacher?

And how shall they hear without a preacher?

Romans 10:14c

a) Then there is the need for a preacher
b) He is assumed to have a good knowledge of the Gospel and can thus present the Gospel effectively

4. How may preachers proclaim the gospel if they are not sent?

And how shall they preach unless they are sent?

Romans 10:15a

a) But how are preachers going to minister unless they are sent
b) Being sent also supposes that they will receive adequate support

BEAUTIFUL FEET

7How beautiful upon the mountains
Are the feet of him who brings good news,
Who proclaims peace,
Who brings glad tidings of good things,
Who proclaims salvation,
Who says to Zion,
“Your God reigns!”

Isaiah 52:7

1. Isaiah was cited by the Apostle Paul

a) The one who proclaims “glad tidings of good things”
b) This is the proclamation of “salvation”
c) The feet of these preachers are called “beautiful”
i) Messengers were often runners
ii) They ran from one city to another to proclaim good news

THE CHALLENGE FOR US TODAY

1. Personal commitment

a) To proclaim the Gospel
b) To preach the Good News of Salvation in the Lord Jesus

2. Practical commitment

a) To pray for preachers/ pastors
b) To support them and send them to proclaim the Gospel
