Day 22

"The power of God and the wisdom of God."

Text: 1 Corinthians 1:24

A DEEP APPRECIATION

There would be some who would reject the message of salvation found in Christ Jesus, no matter what! The message from God does not allow modification or dilution of any kind! But to those who have come to salvation in Christ there is a deep appreciation of the significance of the message of the cross!

“But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks,
Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men,
and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”
1 Corinthians 1:24-25

1. “But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks”

a) The word “called” is to be appreciated.
i) It is God who lovingly calls sinners from a world of sin.
ii) He gently calls them to repent and forsake sin.
iii) He leads them to salvation in Christ Jesus.
iv) Both Jews and Greeks may avail themselves to the offer of salvation.
v) There are some Jews and Greeks who would reject the message of the Cross.
vi) But there would also be some Jews and Greeks who would accept the message of the Cross and they receive salvation.

2. “Christ”

a) Jesus is the Christ (The Anointed One; the Messiah).
b) Two aspects are highlighted:
i) He is the power of God.
ii) He is the wisdom of God.
c) Both power and wisdom are found in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ!

3. “The foolishness of God”

a) Paul was not saying that there is any foolishness in God at all.
b) But he is saying that even if there is “foolishness” in God, that “foolishness” is still greater than the wisdom of men (Jews and Greeks).

4. “The weakness of God”

a) Paul was also not saying that there is any weakness in God at all.
b) But for argument’s sake, even if there is “weakness” in God, His “weakness” is still far greater than the strength of men (Jews and Greeks).
