"Let all things be done for edification."

APOSTOLIC MINISTRY

Part of the Apostolic ministry was to have spiritual oversight of the Churches. The tasks of the Apostles were many. Two things may be highlighted.

1. Evangelism

a) Preaching of the Gospel.
b) Helping people to come to faith in Christ Jesus.

2. Establishing of the Church

a) Appointing leaders.
b) Organising the Church.
c) Correcting of wrong beliefs and practices.
d) Teaching and establishing good church practices including the Worship Service.

AN IMPORTANT REVIEW OF THE CHURCH WORSHIP SERVICE

Paul had to review the worship service of the Corinthian Church. There was certainly room for improvement.

“How is it then, brethren? When you come together,
each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue,
has a revelation, has an interpretation.
Let all things be done for edification.”
1 Corinthians 14:26

1. “When you come together”

This was an obvious reference to the Worship Service.

2. “How is it then, brethren”

This was a review attempted.

a) A Psalm to share
b) A teaching to impart
c) A tongue to make known
d) A revelation to offer
e) An interpretation to give

3. “Each of you”

a) It would appear that each one is insisting on participating.
b) How would things turn out?

4. “Let all things be done for edification”

a) Once again, this reminder had to be made.
b) Obviously, edification was not foremost in the mind of the participants.

The focus seems to be the display of the spiritual gifts of the individuals!
