"Let no one boast in men"

Text: 1 Corinthians 3:21

THE PROBLEM OF BOASTING

Boasting is a problem that does not go away easily! It is a problem that exhibits itself frequently. It is seen in children. Young people are not free from this! Nor are adults exempt from this challenge.

“Therefore let no one boast in men.
For all things are yours: whether Paul
or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death,
or things present or things to come- all are yours.
And you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.”
1 Corinthians 3:21-23

1. “Therefore let no one boast in men”

a) There is nothing to boast about in the first place.
b) Any inclination towards “boasting” is to be resisted!

2. “For all things are yours”

a) This is an amazing statement.
b) This needs to be fathomed carefully.

3. Meaning and significance of this statement

a) God has made us His children. Galatians 4:7; Romans 8:16
b) And as His children we are “heirs”. Galatians 4:7
c) We are joint-heirs with Christ. Romans 8:17

4. “Whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas”

a) These were significant servants of God.
b) But God had raised them up for the purpose of ministering to the saints!
c) They may be gifted but they are only servants of God sent to minister to the heirs of salvation!

5. Other considerations

a) The world, life, death, the present things, or the future things.
b) These things are all part of God’s plans to minister to the joint heirs with Christ.
c) “All are yours!” This was repeated for emphasis.

6. “You are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s”

a) This is the greater thought to have (even to “boast” about).
b) We belong to Christ! And in turn belongs to God! This is truly something to shout about!
