A SPECIAL MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

One of the most wonderful ministries of the Spirit of God is in teaching. The Apostle John urged his readers to comprehend and appreciate this special ministry of the Holy Spirit.

“The same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true,
and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.”
1 John 2:27

1. The danger of false teachers

a) They offered to teach.

b) They planted all kinds of heretical thoughts.

c) Some of the teachings may have even sounded plausible.

2. “The same anointing teaches you concerning all things”

a) John emphasised the Person of the Holy Spirit.

b) The Holy Spirit’s ministry of teaching is highlighted here:-

3. The teaching of the Lord Jesus concerning the teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit

a) The Spirit of God is our “Helper” (John 14:26).

b) Other possible words for “Helper”.

i) Comforter (KJV)

ii) Paraclete

c) He will teach all things.

d) His teaching role is similar to that of the Lord Jesus Christ.

4. “And is true, and is not a lie”

a) He will always teach things which are true.

i) Because He is the Spirit of truth (John 14:17).

ii) Because He is God.

iii) Because He cannot lie.

b) He is never associated with lies.

i) Lying is a form of deception.

ii) This is the work of false teachers.

iii) False teachings are essentially based on lies and must be rejected outright.
