"If indeed you have tasted"

MOTIVATION OF SPIRITUAL GROWTH

There are many things that should motivate us to grow spiritually. Peter adds one more reason for spiritual growth.

“If indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.”
1 Peter 2:3

1. “If indeed”

a) The particle “if” was written as positive affirmation.
b) Thus, the word “indeed” was added to strengthen the particle “if”.

2. “You have tasted”

a) This phrase is connected to the conditional “if” statement.
b) “If you have tasted”
i) The believers had indeed “tasted”.
ii) This is an experiential word.
iii) They had indeed good experiences with reference to faith in God.

3. “That the Lord is gracious”

a) The Lord is a reference to our Saviour.
b) Being born again is a wonderful experience.
c) Feeding on the pure milk of the Word is also another meaningful experience.
d) The joy that God gives is yet another special blessing that is an experience.

4. “The Lord is gracious”

a) The word “gracious” is not just showing grace.
b) The following nuances may be noted:
i) Kind
ii) Benevolent
iii) Loving

5. Any truly born again believer will testify that the Saviour is all that Peter has said, and more

a) The Lord is faithful in giving us protection.
b) He is compassionate and comforting when we go through suffering.
c) He makes His word come alive when we read it faithfully.
