"In all things God may be glorified"

Text: 1 Peter 4:11

USING THE GIFTS GOD HAS GIVEN TO US

The Apostle Peter was conscious of other gifts that God had bestowed. He wrote to encourage all to utilise their gifts to the glory of the Lord!

“If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God.
If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies,
that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ,
to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
1 Peter 4:11

1. “If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God”

a) Speaking
i) As one who teaches God’s word.
ii) As one who exhorts.
iii) As one who shares the Gospel.
b) Oracles of God
i) A simple word was used and translated as “oracles”.
ii) This is a reference to a word or a message from God.
iii) The speaker must be conscious that he is a messenger of God (Malachi 2:7).
iv) His focus is not to air his own ideas/ thoughts/ opinions.

2. “If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies”

a) The word “ministers”
i) It means to serve.
ii) It carries an important nuance of serving humbly.
b) “The ability”
i) The word here is simply that of “strength”.
ii) Serving requires strength that God must give.
c) God’s supply
i) God will not only give a gift.
ii) He will supply strength.
iii) He would supply all that His servants may need.

3. “That in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

a) The glorifying of God was foremost in Peter’s heart and mind.
b) All things (ministries) are to be centred in Christ Jesus.
c) “The glory and the dominion of God”
i) It would last forever and ever indeed.
ii) The majesty of God must always be borne in mind!
d) Every single ministry or deed ought to bring great glory to the Lord our God.
