"I was appointed a preacher and an apostle..."

Text: 1 Timothy 2:7

THE TESTIMONY OF ONE WHO WAS RANSOMED

The salvation that Paul experienced was life-transforming. He could not keep silent about the redemption of his soul that had taken place!

“For which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle-
I am speaking the truth in Christ and not lying-
a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.”

1 Timothy 2:7

1. “For which I was appointed”

a) The record of Paul’s conversion may be found in Acts 9:1-22.
i) He had vigorously attacked the church before his conversion.
ii) Immediately after his conversion he testified of his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
iii) All who heard Paul testify of his faith in Christ were astonished.
iv) Paul had indeed become a totally transformed person.
b) Paul went on to write about his appointment from the Lord.
i) He was appointed as a preacher of the gospel.
ii) He was further appointed as an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ by divine decree.
iii) In his ministry Paul stood out as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

2. “I am speaking the truth in Christ and not lying”

a) This was a solemn declaration.
b) It may be likened to an affidavit.
c) He declared that he was speaking the truth.
d) He was not lying when he was making this declaration.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF PAUL’S TESTIMONY

The testimony of the apostle Paul had wonderful effects in the first century.

1. It confirmed the truth proclaimed.

a) The ransom paid by Christ was truly sufficient and efficacious.
b) Those who had placed their faith in Christ are truly redeemed and may experience transformation of life as Paul did.

2. It confirmed the reality of Paul’s appointment as a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ.

a) Paul was an outstanding preacher, apostle and teacher of Gentiles.
b) Christianity in the first century grew significantly because of its glorious message of faith and truth.
