"Nevertheless she will be saved..."

Text: 1 Timothy 2:15

THE NATURE OF SIN

The sin of Adam and Eve may not seem very significant to many people today. There are certainly more reprehensible sins that are committed today that seem to make their sin appear not so dreadful. We need to understand the nature of sin itself.

1. The sin of Adam and Eve

a) It was the sin of disobedience.
i) They had an express commandment from God.
ii) They disobeyed when they had no reason to disobey.
b) It was a sin that involved Satan.
i) There was deception.
ii) There was a desire to be like God.
iii) There was deliberate rejection of what God had said.
iv) There was compliance to what Satan had said.

2. Sin has to be judged

a) God had to judge the guilty pair.
b) They were banished from the garden of Eden.
c) They would know hardship from then on.

THE SALVATION FROM GOD

God in His mercy planned salvation from the beginning. Paul summarised this plan in the following text.

“Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing
if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.”

1 Timothy 2:15

1. “Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing”

a) This is certainly not a reference to general childbearing.
b) Childbearing in itself cannot bring about salvation.
c) This text is best read with Genesis 3:15 in mind.
i) Eve would bear a special Seed.
ii) Her Seed would be Christ Jesus.

2. “If they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control”

This is a description of a person who has found genuine saving faith in the Lord Jesus. True faith will see a person grow in faith, love, holiness, self-control and more!
