"Since we have the same spirit of faith..."

Text: 2 Corinthians 4:13

THE SAME SPIRIT OF FAITH

Thank God for grace to have faith at all. Faith in God can be cultivated until it is a great faith.

“And since we have the same spirit of faith,
according to what is written,
‘I believed and therefore I spoke,’
we also believe and therefore speak.”
2 Corinthians 4:13

1. The spirit of faith

a) This describes faith as more than

i) An intellectual faith.

ii) An emotional faith.

b) It describes faith as one that affects our spirit or soul.

i) Faith has become so deep it affects our very soul.

ii) This was the kind of faith that Paul obviously possessed and exhibited in ministry.

2. The same spirit of faith

a) Paul cited Psalm 116.

b) The psalmist wrote

i) I believed

ii) And therefore I spoke.

c) The spirit of faith was obviously in the Psalmist.

d) He wrote to say that he and his fellow-workers had the same spirit of faith.

3. Believing and speaking

a) Believing in God

i) In the promises of God.

ii) In hope and trust of what God had said.

b) The circumstances of life

i) The Psalmist wrote about how he faced death but trusted God.

ii) Paul also wrote about the harsh circumstances of his life but there was faith in God.

c) Speaking of the Lord

i) With confidence.

ii) With courage.

iii) With conscious application of faith from deep within the spirit.
