"The judgment seat of Christ..."

Text: 2 Corinthians 5:10

THE FEAR OF JUDGMENT

Many fear judgment from God. They fear that the sins of their life would see them condemned. Mercifully, this fear is answered by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word
and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life,
and shall not come into judgment,
but has passed from death into life.”
John 5:24

1. “Most assuredly”

Thank God for this wonderful assurance!

2. “Shall not come into judgment”

This is with reference to our eternal destiny!

3. “Has passed from death into life”

Thank God for our salvation in Christ Jesus!

THE JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST

How should we understand what Paul meant when he wrote about the Judgment seat of Christ?

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,
that each one may receive the things done in the body,
according to what he has done, whether good or bad.”
2 Corinthians 5:10

1. “We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ”

a) This is a reference to believers and not unbelievers.
b) We are held accountable for all that we do.

2. “That each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done”

a) We are reminded of the Parables the Lord Jesus told.
i) The Parable of the Faithful Servant and the Evil Servant (Matthew 24:45-51)
ii) The Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30)
b) The faithful will receive their reward.
i) They will be commended.
ii) They will be rewarded as the Lord deems best.
c) According to what is done, whether good or bad.
i) The Lord will determine the value of what we have done.
ii) Man will not be able to determine what is good or bad!

3. An important parallel statement about the Judgment Seat of Christ

a) Paul wrote about this in Romans 14:10-12.
b) He affirms that all believers will have to give an account to God (1 Corinthians 3:10-15).
