"Reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ..."

Text: 2 Corinthians 5:18

PRE-RECONCILIATION

Many are not fully aware that they need to be reconciled to God. The following text explains to us just how badly we need to be reconciled to the Lord. Our spiritual state before reconciliation was carefully noted by the Apostle Paul.

1. We were dead in trespasses and sins. Ephesians 2:1

2. We were without Christ. Ephesians 2:12

3. Aliens from the commonwealth of Israel. Ephesians 2:12

4. Strangers from the covenants of promise. Ephesians 2:12

5. Having no hope and without God in the world. Ephesians 2:12

RECONCILIATION WITH GOD

The doctrine of reconciliation is plainly and wonderfully taught in the following text.

“Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself
through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,
that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself,
not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us
the word of reconciliation.”
2 Corinthians 5:18-19

1. “Who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ”

a) God has graciously reconciled us with Himself.
b) The Lord Jesus Christ made this possible through the sacrifice He made when He died on the cross.

2. “And has given us the ministry of reconciliation”

a) The message of reconciliation must be preached.
b) This is a glorious message to proclaim.

3. “The word of reconciliation”

a) The word includes the following:
i) God is reconciling the world to Himself.
ii) He will not impute judgment and punishment for our trespasses.
b) Paul explained this further in Ephesians.
Reconciliation has far-reaching effects. Both Jews and Gentiles are reconciled, and they are one in the sight of God.
i) Those who are far off are brought near by the blood of Christ (Ephesians 2:13).
ii) He is our peace, who has made both one and has broken down the middle wall of separation (Ephesians 2:14).
iii) He has abolished the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances (Ephesians 2:15).
