"We make known to you the grace of God..."

Text: 2 Corinthians 8:1

THE GRACE OF GOD

One of the most amazing and far-reaching truths found in the Scriptures is the doctrine of grace. Paul never seemed to tire of writing about grace!

“Moreover, brethren, we make known to you
thegrace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia.”
2 Corinthians 8:1

1. “Moreover, brethren”

a) Paul’s tone was warm and affectionate.
b) The Corinthian believers were indeed “brethren”.

2. “We make known to you”

a) Fellowship was one of the special features of the Christian brotherhood.
b) Brethren shared freely with each other what they had learned and experienced.
c) There was special joy in making known what the Lord was doing among the churches.
d) Paul sought to share with the Corinthian Church what God was doing in other places.

3. A quick review of the doctrine of the grace of God

a) We are saved by grace (Ephesians 2:8).
b) The grace of God is exceedingly abundant (1 Timothy 1:14).
c) Our calling stems from God’s purpose and grace (2 Timothy 1:9).
d) Grace is available to us in our weaknesses (2 Corinthians 12:9).
e) The gifts of God were bestowed because of grace. The idea behind the word “gifts” (1 Corinthians 12:4 is “grace”).

4. The grace of God bestowed on the church of Corinth

a) Grace is given by Christ to believers not just for salvation (1 Corinthians 1:4).
b) The spiritual life is enriched because of the grace-gifts given by God (1 Corinthians 1:5).

5. The grace of God bestowed on the churches in Macedonia

a) Paul ministered in Macedonia in response to the Macedonian Call (Acts 16:6-10).
b) The cities of Macedonia include the following, where Paul planted churches
i) Philippi
ii) Thessalonica
iii) Berea
c) Despite the many problems the churches faced from enemies of the faith, the churches thrived and became outstanding in their witness
