"I stir up your pure minds"

Text: 2 Peter 3:1

THE TWO EPISTLES

Peter wrote both his epistles with a clear goal in mind. This is the mark of a good writer. One writes humbly and with a clear goal in mind.

“Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle
(in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder).”
2 Peter 3:1

1. “Beloved”

a) This was how the Lord Jesus regarded those who believed and followed Him.

b) This was the way the Apostles of Christ regarded the brethren.

c) The way of Christian love is the way of the Lord Jesus Christ.

d) There should always be a gracious and loving regard for each other.

2. “I now write to you this second epistle”

a) The second epistle was neatly divided.

b) The outline was very clear.

i) There was good encouragement to cultivate faith and life (2 Peter 1).

ii) There was strong exhortation to beware of false teachers (2 Peter 2).

iii) There would be a reminder that we must await the Second Coming (2 Peter 3).

3. “In both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder”

a) To stir up:

i) To cause to rise up.

ii) To cause a revival.

b) “Pure minds”

i) Minds that have seen the light.

ii) Minds that have been enlightened.

iii) Minds that have been brought into the light and may be called “clear”.

c) A reminder

i) That reflects the humility of Peter.

ii) He writes with discernment.

iii) He writes effectively.

iv) But he saw his epistles only to remind the brethren of truths already known.
