"Pray for us..."

Text: 2 Thessalonians 3:1

THE PLACE OF PRAYER

What is the place of prayer in your life? To the apostle Paul, prayer was the most natural activity ever. As we read the Pauline epistles the following things may be noted:-

1. It is a relationship with God

a) As a son to a Father.
b) As a servant to his Lord.

2. It is a response

a) As he sees the work of God in his life and ministry.
b) He gives expression to what he feels and thinks.

3. As a responsibility

a) He knows human limitations.
b) He sought God’s divine help in all of life’s circumstances.

ENCOURAGING PEOPLE TO PRAY

Paul found it natural to encourage people to experience prayer as he found it.

“Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word
of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified,
just as it is with you.”

2 Thessalonians 3:1

1. “Finally”

a) This is a signal that Paul was coming to the end of his epistle.
b) The main concerns had been addressed.
c) There were just a few more matters to look into.

2. Asking for prayer support

a) From “the brethren”.
b) A humble request.

3. Special concerns

a) Concerning the ministry of the word of God especially.
b) The ministry in Thessalonica had gone very well.
c) Not all ministries had gone as well.
d) Prayer support was solicited to help with the ministries elsewhere.
