"To which I was appointed a preacher..."

Text: 2 Timothy 1:11

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

There was a time when Paul resisted and opposed the message of the gospel with all his energy. But when the Risen Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ revealed Himself, Paul became a totally transformed person. The gospel was not an intellectual doctrine. It was his whole life!

THE MINISTRY OF THE GOSPEL

In no time at all, Paul became deeply involved in the ministry of the gospel. He committed himself to the service of the Lord in the ministry of the gospel.

“To which I was appointed a preacher, an apostle,
and a teacher of the Gentiles.”
2 Timothy 1:11

1. “To which I was appointed”

a) Paul reflected about being anointed for ministry.

i) He did not appoint himself.

ii) He believed that one must be anointed (Hebrews 5:1-5).

b) Great consciousness

i) Humility was adopted.

ii) Gratitude was certainly felt.

2. The Paths of Paul’s ministry reviewed

a) “A preacher”

i) This ministry of preaching began earnestly.

ii) Paul spoke with deep conviction that Jesus was indeed the Christ.

iii) He experienced good success.

b) “An apostle”

i) In God’s mercy Paul was appointed an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ.

ii) When exactly this took place the Scriptures have not disclosed.

iii) Paul defended his apostleship by appealing to Divine attestation.

iv) Signs of an apostle accompanied his ministry (2 Corinthians 12:12).

c) “A teacher of the Gentiles”

i) The apostle Peter was the first to minister to the Gentiles (Acts 10).

ii) But Paul was given a special ministry among the Gentiles.

iii) God confirmed his ministry to the Gentiles with divine signs (Romans 15:18-19).
