"Be watchful in all things..."

Text: 2 Timothy 4:5

IN DIRECT CONTRAST

Paul was forthright in his word of admonition to Timothy. While others may be ensnared because they were not careful, he must do the exact opposite!

“But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions,
do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry.”
2 Timothy 4:5

1. “Be watchful in all things”

a) This was a call to be fully observant.

b) Vigilance must be maintained at all times.

c) “In all things”

i) Personal life

ii) Ministry challenges

iii) Dangers and snares

2. “Endure afflictions”

a) Whether the afflictions come from opposition of enemies.

b) Or they arise from ill-health.

c) The challenge is to endure.

i) The Lord may grant special deliverance.

ii) But if He does not, endurance must be exercised.

3. “Do the work of an evangelist”

a) Preaching the gospel.

b) Being a fisher of men.

4. “Fulfil your ministry”

The ministry of the Lord has many aspects. The following may be highlighted:-

a) Teaching,

b) Preaching, and

c) Protecting the flock of God from false teachers.
