"I rejoiced greatly..."

Text: 3 John 3

GREAT PERSONAL JOY

What constitutes great personal joy? To the Apostle John, his greatest sense of joy was penned in the following text.

“For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth
that is in you, just as you walk in the truth.
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”
3 John 3-4

1. “I rejoiced greatly”

a) A declaration of joy was made.
b) A declaration of great joy.

2. “When brethren came and testified”

a) John was evidently in touch with many brethren.
b) Inevitably people will speak of others.
i) Whether good report
ii) Or a bad report.

3. “And testified of the truth that is in you”

a) These brethren bore testimony about Gaius.
b) They spoke of how they saw the truth that was in him.

4. “I have no greater joy”

a) John shared about what brought the greatest joy to his heart.
b) Two common Sources of Joy:-
i) In the Lord.
ii) In the brethren.

5. “Than to hear that my children”

a) Gaius was probably one of John’s spiritual children.
b) Peter has Mark as his spiritual son.
c) Paul wrote to Timothy and Titus as his spiritual sons.
d) It is possible to speak of Gaius in the same manner.

6. “Walk in truth”

There is no greater joy than to see believers walk in the truth! It is one thing to know the truth. It is another to see how truth can set one free. The greatest of joy is when we see brethren walk in the truth!
