Day 34

"He shall not stand who handles the bow"

Text: Amos 2:15

A CLEARER PICTURE GIVEN

A clearer picture is given in the following text about the swift, the strong and the mighty.

“‘He shall not stand who handles the bow,
The swift of foot shall not escape,
Nor shall he who rides a horse deliver himself.
The most courageous men of might
Shall flee naked in that day,’
Says the LORD.”
Amos 2:15-16

1. In defence of the nation

a) Every nation has the right to defend itself against its enemies.
b) Israel could seek Divine help in times of war.
c) It could depend on God to deliver the nation from fierce marauders.

2. The war-like nation

a) If the nation becomes war-like.
b) If the nation embarks on warfare to get gain and power.
c) That nation would be held accountable.
d) That nation, even if it was Israel, would be judged by the Lord.

3. The might of the army

a) To be found in skilled archers.
b) Also found in swift infantry men.
c) Further found in a strong cavalry.
d) Most of all found in courageous people who could do heroic deeds.

4. But if God does not render help because of the sins of the nation

a) The bowmen would not be able to stand.
b) The swift infantry men would not be able to escape when the tide of war changed.
c) The cavalry would also falter and fail.
d) The courageous heroes could lose their bravery.
e) They could turn tail and run for their lives if the tide of war went against them.

5. God was the One who had given Israel victory after victory

a) Israel had forgotten that it was the Lord who had given them the victory in all their battles.
b) But when sin had become so heavy, God would no longer associate Himself with the nation!
