"Whatever you do in word or deed..."

Text: Colossians 3:17

THE PRACTICE OF FAITH

The apostle Paul was not a classroom theologian. His mind fathomed deep theological truths but he was always focused on exhorting people to put their faith into action.

“And whatever you do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

Colossians 3:17

1. “And whatever you do in word or deed”

a) The challenge was given but remains unfulfilled.

i) In word

ii) In deed

b) The challenge must be accepted and then would it be fulfilled.

2. “Do all in the name of the Lord Jesus”

a) There must be consciousness of the name of the Lord Jesus.

b) His name is to be borne in mind:-

i) In obedience to Him.

ii) With a desire to glorify Him.

iii) To bear witness that we are His.

3. “Giving thanks to God the Father”

a) Thanksgiving must be in the heart.

b) The heart is just thankful:-

i) To be able to call God “Father”.

ii) To be able to relate to Him as His children.

iii) That we are able to serve Him.

4. “Through Him”

a) Jesus made this possible through salvation.

b) He is our glorious Mediator and High Priest.

c) He is our Saviour and Lord.

d) He is our Teacher and Friend.
