Ephesians
Day
Day 134

"As I have briefly written already, by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ."

Text: Ephesians 3:3-4

UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORD OF GOD

Have you ever asked yourself what it really takes to comprehend God’s word? Let us attempt to fathom how we actually come to understand the Word of God.

NOT ALL CAN COMPREHEND GOD’S WORD

Those who never seem to benefit much from the reading of the Scriptures.

a) The Evil One works very hard at snatching the Word of God from the human heart.

The Parable of the Sower is highly revealing. Jesus gave three warnings:-

i) Beware the work of the Devil

He will stop at nothing to snatch away the Word of God (Mark 4:15)

ii) Beware the problem of having “no roots” (Mark 4:16-17)
iii) Beware the problem of worldliness (Mark 4:19)
b) The work of the Evil One extends to causing spiritual blindness

Paul’s word to the Corinthian Church must be recalled.

“But even if our gospel is veiled,
it is veiled to those who are perishing,
whose minds the god of this age has blinded,
who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel
of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God,
should shine on them.”
2 CORINTHIANS 4:3-4

THOSE WHO CAN TRULY COMPREHEND GOD’S WORD

The Gospel writer Luke noted how Jesus commented on those who comprehend His teachings. Two things may be highlighted:-

1. God’s gift to comprehend the Scriptures

“To you it has been given to know the mysteries
of the kingdom of God…”
LUKE 8:10

2. The believer’s heart

Jesus also graciously commended those who had understanding of the Gospel.

“The ones (the seeds) that fell on the good ground
Are those who, having heard the word of God
With a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit
with patience.”
LUKE 8:15

Let us ever seek to cultivate a heart that is noble and persevering. May our hearts prove to be good ground upon which the Word of God falls.
