"Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

Text: Ephesians 6:13

ADOPTING THE RIGHT MINDSET

David adopted the mindset of a warrior, from a very young age. He maintained this mindset throughout his life. The apostle Paul seems to have adopted a viewpoint of life that is akin to that of king David. Though Paul was not engaged in any physical battle, he may nevertheless be called a true warrior. He certainly had a warrior’s mindset. He also made many references to battle… spiritual battle!

A WARRIOR’S MINDSET

What makes a person a good warrior? Let us consider the following thoughts:-

1. A good warrior recognizes war for what it is

a) Paul recognized that The Enemy was at war against God.
b) He knew that this war was also waged against mankind in general.
c) Of particular concern was that those who believed in God were under attack in particular.

2. A good warrior must learn all he can about the enemy

a) Paul carefully sought and obtained vital information from the Lord concerning the mighty army of the Evil One (Cf. Ephesians 6:12).
b) He knew enough about the enemy to write about their organization and their strategies.

3. A good warrior must have the right mindset

a) He seeks out strength and power from the Lord (Cf. Ephesians 6:10).
b) He appreciates the provision of the whole armour of God (Cf. Ephesians 6:11).
c) He must have a strong mindset if he is to enter into spiritual battle successfully.

THEREFORE TAKE UP THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

The word “therefore” (“dia touto”) was well chosen. The phrase “dia touto” literally means, “Because of this (and we may include the word “knowledge”)… we must take up the full armour of God. If we have this knowledge that The Enemy has arranged his forces into an army, how can anyone not take up the whole armour of God to resist his attacks? We have been forewarned. Let us be forearmed!
