Exodus
"For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, 'Fear not, I will help you." Isaiah 41:13
Text: Exodus 14 : 21-25
THE PARTING OF THE SEA
While the Angel of God kept the Egyptian army at bay, the Lord kept His word He gave to the children of Israel. They may indeed “go forward”. He would part the sea for them to cross over!
“Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea;
and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind
all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters
were divided. So the children of Israel went into the midst
of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them
on their right hand and on their left.”
EXODUS 14:21-22
Wonder of wonders! Imagine walking on the seabed! And to the right and left were walls of water! And this was no dream either! This was real! The God of their fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was with them! How could they have doubted this great God of theirs?
THE PURSUIT OF THE EGYPTIANS
They did not seem to have learned anything at all about the God of the Hebrews! Just the night before, they encountered a deep sense of darkness that enveloped so thickly they could not move at all. Did they think that this was just the usual darkness that came on when the sun went down?
The Egyptians saw the children of Israel crossing the sea on dry ground! They did not stop to ask themselves how this was possible! They figured that if the children of Israel can cross the sea that way, they could as well! Were they right in their assumption?
“And the Egyptians pursued and went after them
into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots,
and his horsemen.”
Exodus 14:23
It seemed as if the Egyptians were right! The chariots led the way. The Egyptian army was once again hot on the heels of the children of Israel.
THEY COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG!
The Egyptians were to discover just how wrong they were! They had despised the God of the Hebrews once too often! Indeed the LORD was fighting for His people!
“Now it came to pass, in the morning watch,
that the LORD looked down upon the army of the Egyptians
through the pillar of fire and cloud, and He troubled the army
of the Egyptians. And He took off their chariot wheels, so that
they drove them with difficulty; and the Egyptians said,
‘Let us flee from the face of Israel, for the LORD fights for them
against the Egyptians.'”
EXODUS 14:24-25
