Day 145

"Listen to Me, My people; And give ear to Me, O My nation: For law will proceed from Me, And I will make My justice rest as a light of the peoples." Isaiah 51:4

Text: Exodus 19 : 7-9

CLIMBING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN WITH A GREAT MESSAGE

Moses must have felt great personal excitement as he listened to the Lord. With great joy he came down from the mountain, armed with an exciting word from the Lord.

“So Moses came and called for the elders of the people,
and laid before them all these words which the LORD
commanded him.”
EXODUS 19:7

Moses called a meeting of all his elders. Openly he shared with them what God had spoken to him. He made plain to them all that God had spoken up in the mountain.

AN ENCOURAGING RESPONSE

As the elders listened to the message that Moses brought to them, there was unanimous agreement as to how they should respond!

“Then all the people answered together and said,
‘All that the LORD has spoken we will do.’ ”
EXODUS 19:8A

The response was correct and appropriate! They agreed that they must obey the LORD! With one voice “together” they promised to do all that the Lord had spoken to them.

UP MOUNT SINAI AGAIN

Moses went up the mountain again! Was the journey too tiring? The joy that was in his heart made up for many things.

“So Moses brought back the words of the people to the LORD.”
EXODUS 19:8B

Few were the occasions when the elders of the children of Israel were united behind Moses! Such moments were to be relished and enjoyed!

ENJOYING A UNIQUE MINISTRY

All alone in the mountain, Moses communed with God! What a rare and exquisite moment that was.

“So Moses told the words of the people to the LORD.”
EXODUS 19:9B

Moses understood his role very well. He was the mediator. He was the spokesman for both God and the children of Israel! It was a most demanding job at times, but few things could match the exhilaration of functioning as a “priest”. His role was that of a priest in the most wonderful sense of the word! He must have gloried in that most enviable role when he represented God on the one hand, and Israel on the other!
