Day 215

"Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day." Psalm 119:97

Text: Exodus 24 : 4

AN INDEFATIGABLE SERVANT OF GOD

It is truly amazing and awe-inspiring to see the energy and zeal that Moses displayed in his service! After walking down from the mountain, he spoke to the children of Israel. After that he went on to write down all that he had heard from the Lord! He wanted to write as soon as possible, lest his memory failed him (He was after all, an octogenarian when he commenced serving the Lord)! What was his special source of strength and energy? The following may be highlighted:-

1. His renewed love for the Lord.

2. His deeper appreciation of the Word of the Lord.

3. His hope for the glorious future of Israel.

4. His having been in the Presence of the Lord in Mount Sinai.

How wonderful to be filled with so much drive and energy! His faith was anything but weak and insipid. He obviously enjoyed his faith-relationship with God!

BUILDING A SPECIAL ALTAR OF WORSHIP

At crack of dawn, Moses organized a special time of worship. This desire to worship the Lord may well be prompted even as he spent time writing down all that he had learned on Mount Sinai.

“And he rose early in the morning, and built an altar
at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars according
to the twelve tribes of Israel.”
EXODUS 24:4B

1. “And he rose early in the morning”

What a great habit Moses had developed! But even more than a habit was his genuine desire to offer worship.

2. “And built an altar”

Careful preparation must be made. An altar must be carefully made according to God’s instructions (Cf. Exodus 20:25-26)!

3. “At the foot of the mountain”

Moses must have remembered that God had not allowed anyone to ascend the mountain. Hence the altar must be erected only at the foot of the mountain.

4. “Twelve pillars according to the twelve tribes of Israel”

This was the first altar that Moses made after they had left Egypt! The whole nation offering worship together! How moving and memorable worship could be!
