Exodus
Day
Day 29

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations." Jeremiah 1:5

Text: Exodus 4 : 1-3

ONE OBJECTION AFTER ANOTHER

Moses must have felt tremendous stress at the thought of being commissioned to serve the Lord in the capacity described for him. He raised up one objection after another.

Objection One: Personal Inadequacy

Moses was most conscious that he was personally inadequate to be sent as God’s special emissary to the Pharaoh. Thus he said,

“Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh,
and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”
EXODUS 3:11

Objection Two: Lack of Knowledge of God

Moses raised what seemed to be another valid objection. He did not know God enough to be His spokesman.

“Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them,
‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me,
‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?”
EXODUS 3:13

God graciously answered Moses, and most patiently too! The Lord’s answers were rather lengthy! He wanted to allay all the fears of Moses! The conversation that Moses had with the Lord was long and protracted! He raised yet another objection.

Objection Three: The Unbelief of the children of Israel

Moses was afraid that the children of Israel would not believe him! He had not been in contact with them for some forty years! How would they believe that he was sent from God?

“Then Moses answered and said, ‘But suppose
they will not believe me or listen to my voice;
suppose they say, ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.'”
EXODUS 4:1

God allowed Moses to speak his mind freely. He was more than happy to give an answer to every objection raised up. To the first two queries, God gave deep and profound answers. To the third objection, God was prepared to give a special sign to Moses to strengthen his faith.

“So the Lord said to him, ‘What is that in your hand?’
And he said, ‘A rod.’
And He said, ‘Cast it on the ground.’ So he cast it on the ground,
and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it.”
EXODUS 4:2-3

What deep lessons of faith God was trying to teach Moses!
